Access Statement

Chapel Guesthouse is located in Branston village, three miles from the centre of the city of Lincoln. It offers three bedrooms, which can be booked at any one time. Of these, two double rooms, both en-suite, are on the first floor and the third is a double room with a private bathroom on the second floor.

The Chapel was built in 1883 and has been substantially renovated to provide a contemporary interior whilst retaining some of the traditional features. The age of this building and the fact that its original design was for a non-residential purpose, might make access difficult for people with restricted mobility.

Branston is sited on the B1188 which leads directly into Lincoln. Please see the map and full details of how to find us on the guesthouse website. As a large village, it benefits from a doctor’s surgery, pharmacy, Co-operative supermarket (open 7 days a week), Chinese take away, hair dressing salon and ladies clothing outlet. These are all located close together in an area approximately 450metres from the guesthouse.

Lincoln city can be accessed by bus (Routes 2 and 31). The nearest bus stop is located close to the shops and has no shelter. Buses run to Lincoln Bus Station approximately every 20 minutes from 7am to 7pm. The nearest railway station is Lincoln Central, in the centre of Lincoln and close to the bus station. Taxis are usually available from directly outside the train station.

Arrival & car parking: On-street parking is available directly outside of the guesthouse in the quiet conservation area of Branston. There is minimal off street parking at the guesthouse. There is additional free off-street parking in the nearby public car park.

Access to the property is gained via three stone steps approximately 15cm (6ins) through a large, wide door into a porch. This has an external light at night time. From the porch, there is one step down 14cm (5.5ins) into the main, open plan ground floor of the chapel where guests are welcomed and registered. This area is also where breakfast is served. Assistance can be given with luggage.

Bedrooms: Guest rooms on the first floor are accessed by means of a wooden open-tread staircase comprising thirteen 20cm (8ins) steps. There is a handrail on one side and a solid wall to the other side. A further bedroom on the second floor is accessed by a further carpeted staircase comprising thirteen 20cm (8in) treads.

Each room and the communal areas have independent smoke detectors with automatic audible alarms.

Bathroom: The bathroom adjacent to the Sapphire room has a toilet (height – 43cm/17in) and bidet (height – 36cm/14ins). The roll top bath is provided with a non-slip mat and incorporates an over-bath shower which can also be hand held.

En-suite shower rooms: The en-suite facilities in the Amethyst Room and Silver Room have step free access from the bedrooms. Each has a shower cubicle with bi-folding doors and a step (height – 23cm/9ins) to the shower tray. Each also has a toilet (height – 43cm/17in) and wash basin.

Public areas: All public areas, landings and stairs are well lit using a combination of recessed ceiling lights and table-lamps. There is emergency lighting on the first floor which illuminates the exit in the event of a power failure.

Flooring is made from solid oak with runner type carpets and ornamental rugs.

There are no steps within the breakfast room or ground floor public toilet.

The chapel is central heated throughout but temperatures can be regulated in each room by adjusting the radiator thermostats to suit individual requirements.

Public toilet: There is a small ground floor unisex toilet (height – 43cm/17in) available for guests to use. It is step free and located next to the main entrance/exit to the chapel.

Additional information:

  • There are fire evacuation instructions in each room. A sprinkler system on the first floor landing and ground floor provide a wet route to the main front door exit in the event of a fire.
  • There are two small outdoor courtyard areas to the front of the property comprising occasional seating, table and planters/tubs. The walking surface, made of stone/brick, is uneven.
